Description

Mk81 120kg bombs x 6 was a weapon load sometimes carried by South African Air Force Impala Mk2 aircraft (example during Operation Protea 1981, Operation Askari 1983/84) The South African manufactured version of the 120kg MK81 series bombs were carried by SAAF Impala Mk2 aircraft during the “Border War” which took place across the South African administered territory of South West Africa (Later renamed Namibia), Angola, Zambia and occasionally Mozambique.

The South African Air Force (SAAF) used the SA771 (South African designation) /M904E3 (USA Designation) mechanical nose fuse which allows point detonation instantaneous fusing, delay time or delay action. The back-up SA772 tail fuse provides impact fusing and arming delay time in milliseconds

The South African Air Force (SAAF) used Limbo fuses as specialized airburst fusing mechanisms for low-drag pre-fragmented Mk81 120kg and Mk82 250kg bombs during operations

These bombs were used on many other aircraft like but not limited to:
Aermacchi MB-326 Atlas Impala Mk1 and Mk2
Dassault Mirage III CZ/EZ series aircraft
Dassault Mirage F1 AZ and CZ
Blackburn Buccaneer S50
English Electric Canberra
Atlas/Denel Cheetah C/D/E
